HOW
TO USE YOUR
EASY TAPPER MODEL #XTC-6.7S
TAPPING MACHINE
1. Verify the
source, destination, type, contents, and pressure of the line you
are about to tap. Note: Maximum tapping pressure for the
Model # XTC-6.7S is 1,470 P.S.I.G. at 100 degrees F.
2. A flanged or threaded tapping saddle of proper size can be attached
to the main line. (In some cases a thread-o-let or malleable iron
nipple can be arc welded to the main line).
3. For threaded connections a short nipple is then threaded into
the tapping saddle.
4. A "full port" ball valve, or resilient seated gate
valve is then connected. Note: Standard gate valves are not recommended
in this case, because shavings from the drilling process tend to
collect in the gate chamber, preventing the gate from closing all
the way.
5. The XTC-6.7S Hot Tapping Machine ships ready to use, by first
installing 2 strips of pure graphite packing under the packing nut
at the back of the machine front. Install the second strip with
the joining seam on the opposite side from the first strip, to create
a better seal. Grease has been factory installed in the bearing
box, and an o-ring seal for the drive shaft has also been factory
installed. Additional packing can be added at any time, even during
the tapping process, simply by withdrawing the drive shaft and cutter
back out of the branch line valve and then closing the branch line
valve while packing is installed. To add packing, loosen the packing
nut and install as listed at the beginning of section 5 (above).
6. Now select the proper adapter, cutter, and pilot bit. Place gasket
between machine and adapter, and tighten in place. Then tighten
cutter and pilot into coupler on end of drive shaft.
Note: refer to the cutter information on the back side of these
operating instructions for cutter size and recommended cutting RPMs.
The end of the pilot bit should be positioned to penetrate the wall
thickness of the main line before the cutter teeth engage the wall
of the main line. When using the Easy Tapper coupon
retaining pilot bit, the spring-steel wire should pass through
the wall of the main line before the cutter teeth begin cutting.
The cutter and the pilot should now be tightened securely to the
drive shaft.
7. At this point it is a good idea to verify that the cutter will
slip through the branch line "full port" ball valve unrestricted.

Use a 1/4"
Cobalt Pilot Bit.
Position within the Bimetal Hole Saw to
extend completely through the wall of the pipe before the
teeth of the hole saw contact the wall of the pipe.
As the Cobalt
Pilot Bit penetrates the wall of the main line, fluid will
rush into the tapping machine body and will act as a coolant
for the Bimetal Hole Saw.
